Endodontics is the speciality within Dentistry that deals with the treatment and prevention of diseases of the dental pulp and the supporting structure of the tooth. Endodontic treatment is often referred to as root canal treatment and is carried out when the nerve inside the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. The root canals within the tooth are located and cleaned out to remove all dead and infected material and then they are filled to seal up the tooth.
